The Phalaenopsis, known widely as the Moth Orchid, is widely regarded as the most graceful of all flowering houseplants. Its arching sprays of delicate blooms in rich, velvety tones create an immediate focal point wherever it is placed, whether on a dining table, a windowsill, or a desk.
What makes the Phalaenopsis truly special as a gift is its longevity. A well-tended plant can remain in bloom for weeks, even months, continuing to delight long after most cut flowers have faded. It thrives in bright, indirect light and requires only occasional watering, making it as practical as it is breathtaking.

Light: Place in a bright spot with indirect light - an east or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Avoid direct sun, which can bleach and damage the delicate blooms.
Watering: Water sparingly, approximately once a week, by placing the pot in a shallow dish of water for 15 to 20 minutes and allowing the roots to absorb moisture from below. Empty any excess water from the saucer afterwards, as orchids are highly susceptible to root rot.
Temperature: Phalaenopsis orchids prefer a stable indoor temperature between 18°C and 29°C. Avoid placing near air conditioning vents, drafts or cold windowpanes in winter.
Feeding: Use a diluted orchid-specific fertiliser every two to four weeks during the growing season to support re-blooming.
After Blooming: Once the flowers have dropped, do not discard the plant. Trim the spent spike just above a node and continue regular care - with patience, the plant will reward you with another flush of blooms.
